Big Shoes Network is a website that features jobs and internships in the creative industries in the Midwest (ad agencies, in-house departments, etc.) It’s a free resource for job seekers. Remember to sign up for their mailing list and get a list of job openings sent to you.
Our friends to the north have put together a website with helpful advice for those looking for jobs in the marketing world. It is geared towards Canadians, but we have permission to share, so feel free to sign up. Lots of good videos to watch geared towards junior talent.

NIU’s career resource center is available for both NIU students and employers. Includes listings of jobs by major and a schedule of workshops for students to up their game. Employers can list open positions, review student resumes, invite students to apply for open positions, and find out about career fairs on campus.
Behance.net is an Adobe company website that allows students and professionals to have their own free portfolio page online.
Art/Business Groups & Organizations
AAF – American Advertising Federation – a national organization with local chapters. AAF holds a Student Advertising Competition (The “Addys”). Make sure to visit the student section on their website!
AIGA – American Institute of Graphic Arts – a national organization that is honed in on the graphic design community. The AIGA website has a student section and scholarship opportunities.
AMA – American Marketing Association – a national organization with local chapters, AMA concentrates on the marketing world. Undergrad membership is less than $2.50 a month.
CFAE – Council For Art Education – for those wanting to get into art education, check out the CFAE website. Their website has a wonderful directory of Art Centers and Non-Profit Associations that is a great resource for all fine artists!
CMA NXT – Canadian Marketing Association NXT – NXT stands for Next generation. This website is dedicated to helping students. Although a Canadian organization, they have given us permission to include them here. We’ll take that as an invitation for people to sign up too. (It’s free.)
Communication Arts – CA is the magazine for the art professional in the communications world. Although subscription based, there is plenty to explore on their website without a subscription. (There is a student price for subscribing.) CA will feature students’ work in their publication. In addition, they host the Creative Hotlist, a job listing board for the creative job seeker.
Print Magazine – a subscription magazine for designers. There are plenty of free resources online, including a direct connection to the Design Matters with Debbie Millman podcast. This podcast interviews a variety of artists and designers (and others) in all disciplines.
